Pretty and Pale: Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It!
By Jessica Milter
Mirror, mirror, on the wall…we are the fairest of them all!
Girls with pale skin can often feel outnumbered, especially in the summertime when everyone is lusting for that tan glow. But instead of being part of the majority, embrace your pale skin and make it stand out from all the rest! It’s time to ditch the bronzer and self-tanner with these tips for accenting your skin and proving that pale skin is beautiful skin.
Deepen Your Hair Color
Dark hair against pale skin creates a strong contrast that really brings emphasis to the face. If you’re willing to take a risk, go for a dark brown. If your hair is lighter, try to go a shade or two darker to start out with and see how you like it. If changing hair color isn’t an option for you, don’t worry – there are many other ways to accent your skin.
Define Your Eyebrows
Nothing frames the face and makes it stand out more than defined eyebrows. Go for an eyebrow pencil or eyeshadow (with an angled liner brush) that’s the same color as your hair or one shade darker. Tweeze any outlying hairs and start filling in any sparse areas, remembering to stay within your natural eyebrow shape. Unless you’re already blessed with dark and full brows, filling them in really draws attention to the face and pulls your entire look together.
Emphasize Your Lashes
Girls with already dark features have to worry less about this but if you have fair skin and lighter hair, your lashes can kind of disappear and blend in with the rest of your face. To challenge that, go for a dark brown or black eyeliner and mascara. Eyeliner on the lash line makes the lashes appear fuller and mascara will give them extra darkness with plush volume and length.
Bring Some Color to the Cheeks
Using a rose or berry blush on the cheeks will give your face a youthful glow. A deeper cheek color makes pale skin look healthy and beautiful by highlighting the contrast in skin tone. Think a la Zooey Deschanel – she’s known for her rose-colored cheeks and lips. Achieve the same look by using this tip for complementing your pale skin perfectly.
Love A Red Lip
When choosing a red lip color, it’s important to choose a red that complements your skin tone. If you have cool undertones in your skin, choose a red that has blue undertones. For warmer skin, a red with orange undertones. Not only will red lipstick make your teeth look whiter, but it will also accentuate the face when the boldness of the color contrasts with the lightness of the rest of the face. If red is too daunting, a deep pink, rose or berry color works just as well.
So ladies, be bold with your pale skin! You’re one of a few so embrace it and show it off in all its beauty!

Thank you! I’m in my early 50s and very pale with amber colored hair. I’m a warm color, skin tone. Love the ideas. Can you post more hints for my pale skin. Also, I’m a nurse who works night shift. I don’t like a lot of makeup on my face because I have larger pores and break out at times. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Lori! Thank you for your comment!
For makeup to wear at work, I would recommend a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream. I like using the Covergirl Aqua Smoothers tinted moisturizer all over the face and then I just spot conceal under my eyes and on any blemishes. It’s very affordable and gives you good coverage without being too heavy! Setting it with a powder will tie the whole face makeup together as well.
You could probably get away with just mascara, some blush, and lip balm as well!
Hope this helped!
