How To Blow Dry Like a Pro
A basic blowout can make your hair look healthy, shiny and perfectly styled. There’s no need to use harsh heat-styling tools such as straighteners, just follow these simple steps to achieve salon-perfect hair.
What you need: a blowdryer with a nozzle, medium to large round brush, hair clips, hair bands, straightening balm, leave-in conditioner.
Step 1: When you get out of the shower blot your hair with a towel to get rid of excess water.
Step 2: Apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to your hair.
Step 3: This is a trick we learned from Kristin of The Beauty Department. Always start with your bangs/fringe section first. It’s best to deal with this section when it’s wetter, so you can have control over parting and cowlicks.
Step 4: Before you start to blowdry, use the dryer on low heat to evenly remove moisture from your hair.
Step 5: Apply straightening balm to your hair. Rub the straightening balm between your fingers and comb your hair with your hands.
Step 6: Decide which section of your hair you want to start with, and clip the rest of your hair to the other side. Pull the brush through your hair with the nozzle of the dryer pointed downward toward the hair at a 90 degree angle with the floor. It’s best to start with the back and move onto the sides.
Step 7: When you’re onto the sides, your hair will have air dried a little. In these cases, Kristin recommends wetting your hair a little bit in order to avoid frizz.
Step 8: After you’re done, flip your head over and point the dryer without the nozzle towards your hair. And voilà–you’re done!
If this technique sounds too difficult for you, we recommend investing in a hot hair styler and dryer like this one from Revlon. Hot hair stylers are your dryer and brush all-in-one. They’re easy to use and perfect for a quick blowout!
