How to Style Your Stripes
By Danielle Lawrence
You may think that stripes are hard to coordinate and match together unless you’re going for the sailor vibe, but that’s not the case. There are a few rules to follow when you want to don your favorite pair of horizontals, especially if you want to tone down the catchiness of the stripes.
There are several ways to blend your stripes with the rest of your outfit without looking like you’re trying too hard. Different blocks of colored clothing or a bright blazer can create an exciting look. You can also try topping your stripes with a cardigan or blazer that has small details like ruffles to give your style a little more flair. Ruffles can easily dress up your look without overpowering the stripes.
If you’re going for a simple look, try a classic striped shirt with a mustard colored jacket for a nice colored combination. Most people are afraid to mix colors that they usually don’t work with, but you shouldn’t say no to something unless you’ve tried it before.
Going for a masculine look? Put on your favorite boyfriend jeans, a pair of chunky clogs and your favorite striped tee. No matter how casual or dressy the top, the jeans will dress it down.
Dress like Blair Waldorf and take a striped dress and put a trench coat over it, but don’t forget to add a pink pouf.
Even if you’re not a go-to accessories person, you must try them with the stripes. Whether you opt for a belt, watch or necklace an accessory always gives a final touch to an outfit. If you are wearing thin stripes put on a chunky necklace to give your ensemble some balance.
What do you like to do to spice up your stripes? Have you seen looks you’d like to imitate but can’t seem to find in your closet? Don’t worry, in this case it’s not easier said than done, you just need to experiment with the items in your closet. Many people think they need new clothes to add some flavor to their outfits, but it’s just a matter of mixing and matching all of your items to make them look brand new.
