On The Rise: ‘Newsroom’ Star John Gallagher Jr.

On The Rise: ‘Newsroom’ Star John Gallagher Jr.
By Chelse Hensley

John Gallagher Jr. is a rising actor in Hollywood, but he has been on the New York scene for many years now. The 28-year-old actor is gaining momentum in the Aaron Sorkin hit show The Newsroom, which has just been picked up for a second season, but this charming actor already has a Tony Award and several prominent movies, such as Woody Allen’s Whatever Works, under his belt.

JGJ, as his fans affectionately call him, is a Broadway veteran that has starred in popular musicals such as Spring Awakening with Lea Michele and American Idiot with Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong. For his work in Spring Awakening John won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor. His musical talent is not only limited to the stage—John regularly plays small shows in New York City and performs all original music that he has written himself. Sounds like the perfect guy, right? John’s character in The Newsroom, Jim Harper, even sung in a previous episode.

The Newsroom is one of this season’s hottest television shows. Excellent writing and a stellar ensemble cast are only a couple of reasons why we can’t stop watching. If you love keeping up with popular culture, political drama and rooting for the underdog, this show is definitely a must-see. JGJ brings a fun, playfulness to an otherwise severe script. We can’t get enough of his goofy magnetism on and off-screen!

Catch John Gallagher Jr. in The Newsroom on HBO, Sundays at 10 p.m. EST.

Um… He already sang in The Newsroom. It was the 7th episode, 5/1. Sorry that you missed that.
