Green house gases
Earth is kept warm by absorbing greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and water vapor, and emitting those gases as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases are often assumed to be bad, but without them Earth would be 30 degrees constantly. That’s winter all year round!
