In natural light, examine the veins on your inner wrist. If you have green veins, you have a warm complexion. Blue veins mean you are cool-colored. Lastly, veins with colors that are not a definite green or blue leaves you neutral. Read More
How to Dress to Impress (Men)
July 4, 2012 | Allison HaagBy Sarah Smith
Many women are fooled by the myth that men like revealing, skimpy clothing. Women think they love plunging necklines and sheer cutouts, and most of all tight-fitting fabrics. When in fact, a majority of men will tell you they like a woman dressed comfortably and classy. Men love wondering what is underneath clothing; it intrigues them and has them imagining what your figure looks like without all the layers. Read More

A Flirty Picnic
Embrace the outdoor scenery of a summer picnic by dressing in a flowery corset top and embroidered high waist jean shorts. For the perfect pair of laced jean shorts, splurge on some cutoffs at Free People. Finish off your outfit with some bangles or braided bracelets and a pair of sandals. As for your hair, try a fishtail braid or low pony to keep it tucked back as you embark on your nature escapade with your man. Read More
Summer Work Looks: How to Make Your Cubicle Your Catwalk
June 7, 2012 |
By Kelly Mosser
Whether you’re an artist or stockbroker by profession, no woman needs to become a victim of the black pantsuit, especially not during the warmest and most vibrant months of the year. Even if you’re stuck in a cubicle or surrounded by drab, ill-fitting slacks this summer, you can dare to stand out at work. In fact, a more vibrant wardrobe not only gets you noticed, it helps your co-workers remember you! And especially for temporary interns seeking eventual employment, standing out is extremely important.
If you’re required to don a jacket from 9:00 to 5:00, rely on enticing hues and unexpected textures and patterns to create a look that’s both appropriate and fun. Pastel colors like mint and pale pink are trendy and perfect for a structured blazer. Check out stores like H&M for lots of variety. Read More
Tunics and Tunes: What to Wear to a Summer Music Festival
June 4, 2012 |
By Kelly Mosser
What’s more delicious than indulging your ears in live music on a warm summer evening? There’s no better time of year to catch your favorite acts while they’re in town, but everyone knows a summer music festival is not just about the tunes. For the price of your general admission ticket, you’re also accessing another whole form of artistic genius. Besides, would we still be talking about Woodstock if everyone had been wearing mom jeans and hoodless sweatshirts?
This summer, the quintessential music festival outfit is risky, relaxed, and pays homage to the 1970s. On top, lace and crochet are timeless, and sheer fabrics paired with a bold bandeau are sure to turn heads. Aim for a feminine look without the fuss and leave tops that are too structured or conservative at home.
As far as bottoms go (which probably isn’t far, considering short shorts are a music festival staple), you’ll see denim dominating the scene this season. Ripped, frayed, or cuffed- anything goes. A lighter wash pairs well with a loose, romantic, or cropped top. If you’re not on Team Denim, bold tribal patterned skirts of any length are a definite “do”, and allow for creativity on top. Mixing and matching patterns is encouraged, though not required. A new trend to try is the high-low hem, which harmonizes nicely with the laid-back yet vibrant feel of an outdoor show. Read More
What To Wear To … A Job Interview
August 29, 2010 | 1Job interviews can be tricky, not to mention that they are also nerve-wrecking. The one thing that I happen to know to calm yourself down during those interviews? Dressing well! It sounds odd but I find that the confidence you take in your outfit can make you feel better about your interview. So without further delay, I present to you a few looks that are perfect for job interviews:
Pants – Team a pair of cigarette pants like these AL&ALICIA ones with a simple button down, throw on a blazer and voila! A comfortable and fashionable outfit for any kind of job interview. As for the shoes, if you’re applying for a job in the fashion business, a pair of simple but classic and timeless black heels will do the trick. If not, opting for a pair of ballet flats might also be a safe option.
Dress – If you want to go for a dress, think Victoria Beckham. Well-fitted, muted tones and appropriate length (meaning, not too short). Opt for colors like grey or deep blue or if that is too boring for you, you can try soft shades of pink. Read More
Fashion For Vacations
July 29, 2010 | 1Going on vacation is fun. Packing for vacations – not so much. The reason that packing is probably the most dreaded part of going on a vacation is that most people – myself included – lack the least expertise in packing. I took the liberty of putting together a few “vacation wardrobes” for those of you looking to stay at the top of your game even if you don’t have the luxury of your entire wardrobe with you at all times.
The Beach – If you’re going someplace near the beach, make sure that your wardrobe isn’t filled with over-the-top bright colors. Opt for clothes in pastel or lighter shades such as baby blue, pastel pink, mint or light yellows. Topshop’s range of sundresses are the right garments for a beach vacation. The bottoms, in my opinion, are more important than the tops you wear when going to the beach, therefore carrying a variety of shorts and skirts with you can be a good idea. Leggings or jeans can be an option; however, avoid going overboard with these because they are very likely going to contribute nothing but burdensome weight. As for shoes, wedges and flats are more ideal choices than pumps. The look and comfort that wedges provide make me love them. Lastly, remember to bring hairspray if you have frizzy hair. Read More

What to Wear to the Movies
July 6, 2010 | 2It may seem unimportant, but what you wear to the movies is far more important than we think, not to mention tricky. You don’t want to look like a slob but you don’t want to look like you’re about to hit the red carpet later either. Here are a few looks that I think are ideal for a trip to the cinema:
The “Classic” Look: Yes, we are sick of being told that you can never go wrong with a pair of simple blue jeans and a white shirt but the fact of the matter is that it looks fab on everyone - irrespective of their build, skin color or any such thing. However, if pairing your jeans with a simple white button down is far too bland for you, I would suggest you opt for a Tee with interesting accents (not prints and ESPECIALLY not Ed Hardy-esque prints) like this slouchy grey Plastic Island top with zipper detailing on each shoulder. Beat the heat: Summer Concert Styles
July 2, 2010 |Summer time is about freedom, relaxation, and a life-loving attitude. What better way to do just that then to rock out at a great summer concert. The only problem- hot sticky weather can do some awkard damage to your appearance, but stick with these outfit tips and you’ll be looking cool even when the weather heats up.
Lightweight fabrics are your best friend. Opt for a cropped tank. It’s perfect paired with a fitted high-waisted mini or a pair of jean cut-offs.
Another great way to survive the heat is to find the perfect summer dress. I suggest something you can easily move in- it’s a concert, time to dance! Wear it with a cute pair of brown gladiator sandals or your favorite Tom’s and you’re ready to rock.
When all else fails, accessorize. Accessories give your basics a unique flare. My top 3 accessories are 1. The fedora- lets face it- hair in the summer can be a mess, this is the perfect way to disguise it- try fredflare.com if you’re looking for one! 2. A fun necklace, the Betsey Johnson one below is perfect and summer themed! And lastly, 3. A great pair of sunglasses! You can never go wrong with a pair of Raybans (There are also similar Rayban-aviator styles with lower prices).
